Seongsu-dong
Seoul Forest
Seoul Forest and Seongsu are peaceful areas. They aren't as built up with high rises and apartment blocks. There's still an essence of community and residential living. Seoul Forest is one of the biggest parks in Seoul. There's a little Ginko tree forest, wetlands, butterfly greenhouse and a deer park. Next to the park is Han River. You are able to exit the park by a tunnel or the bridge that leads you straight to the water.
Seongsu was originally where shoes and leather goods were made. Though there are still a few warehouses running, most of the warehouses have now been turned into cafes, restaurants, studios and bars. Every street has a hidden gem.
Seoul Forest to Seongsu.
1. Get off at Seoul forest and come out of exit 5. Walk straight until you meet Seoul Forest 2gil. Turn right onto this street.
2. I would recommend just wandering along these streets. There are many great cafes and independent shops in this quarter. My personal favourites are Momento Brewers and Victoria Bakery.
3. At the end of the street there is an entrance to Seoul Forest. Go past the tennis courts and around the side of the lake, you will see the Ginko tree forest. I recommend going here in October/ November time when the leaves are all yellow.
4. Follow the signs to the Deer park, If the machine is working, buy some deer food and say hello to them. The deer are really friendly and like to be petted.
5. Off to the left of the Deer park are some stairs that take you onto the bridge that crosses over the Deer park to the Han River.
6. At the end of the bridge, turn right so that Namsan Tower is going away from you.
7. Walk along the Han River until you meet the edge of Ttsuksom Park. There is a little underpass that will take you to the main part of Seongsu.
8. Walk up Seongsuleero. You can go off on to one of the side streets to explore and will be able to circle back to this road. Camel, Ofer, Oodichip, lowkey are some good places to check out.
9. At the end of Seongsuleero, you can cross over the main road, turn left and then go up Ahchasanro 9gil to Onion. This is a famous bakery known for its salt butter rolls, red bean bread and pastries.
10. Exit Onion, circle back onto the main road, and you will see the Subway where your walk is finished.
